About The Plough at Plumpton Green
Nicole, Mick and the team welcome you to this lovely Cask Marque accredited Harvey's Pub, rebuilt in 1956 after being demolished during WWII to make way for an airstrip. More of this below!
History
The Plough as we know it today hasn't always existed in its current location. Prior to WWII The Plough Inn was located further north on South Road.
To support D-Day operations (6th June 1944) plans were made to create a number of temporary, Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) to support the huge D-Day invasion force.
RAF Chailey was one of several ALG's created during 1943. Unfortunately the site of The original Plough Inn was directly under the approach of landing aircraft so it had to go!

As Richard Whittle explains in his excellent book 'Spit & Polish', in October 1943 a chicken house, formerly an old Army hut was rebuilt at the site of the current pub. This 'temporary' pub remained until 1956, when it was eventually replaced by the building we know today.
